About Vera Holm

Hi, I’m Vera Holm, and this is my sewing room. It is where I share free sewing patterns, hand embroidery designs and quilt patterns, written out the way I always wished patterns were.
Why I started Vera’s Sewing Room
Too many free patterns skip the part you actually need: how big to cut, how much fabric to buy, which floss colour goes where. So every pattern here starts with a materials list and a cutting chart, the finished size is worked out from the cutting sizes, and the maths is checked before a pattern goes live.
What you will find here
- Sewing: tote bags and zipper pouches, simple clothes cut from rectangles, cushions and home sewing, baby gifts and beginner guides.
- Embroidery: hoop art, wildflowers and florals, names and lettering, small cross stitch motifs and stitch tutorials.
- Quilting: easy quilts, quilt blocks, baby quilts, table runners and quilting basics.
How my patterns are written
Measurements are in inches first with centimetres in brackets. Quilting patterns use a 1/4 inch seam allowance and 42 inch wide quilting cotton. Sewing patterns give their seam allowance at the top of the cutting list. Embroidery patterns name the stitch, the DMC colour and the number of strands for every part of the design.
Found a mistake or stuck on a step?
Please tell me the pattern name and the step number. I fix corrections as soon as I can, and every reader after you benefits.
